Deutsche Flak-Selbstfahrlafetten auf Fahrgesetllen der Halbkettenkraftwagen 1939-1945 (Waffen-Arsenal Sonderband 78)

Seil Heuinn der militärischen Verwendung von Bal-lon. Luftschifff und spüler Flugzeug ergab sich die Notwendigkeit, ein Kampfmiltel zu deren Bekamp-huig zu finden. Bereits im Deutsch-Französischen Krieg 1870/71 wurden Freiballone eingesetzt, mit denen die in Paris eingeschlossenen französischen Truppen Verbindung mit dem nicht besetzten Teil des Landes aufnahmen, Zu ihrer Abwehr fanden auf deutscher Seile 3.7-cm-Ballonabwehrkanonen der Firma F. Krupp AG Essen Verwendung, die auf leichten, zweiachsigen Pferde wagen montiert und so (im Vergleich zu den üblichen Artilleriewaffen dieser Zeil) äullersl beweglich waren. Mit dieser Verbindung von Feuerkraft und Beweglichkeit zeigten sich bei diesen Fahrzeugen schon 1870/71 grundsätzliche Merkmale der späteren Selbstfahrlafetten. Wegen der hohen Beweglichkeit der Luftfahrzeuge waren das wichtige Voraussetzungen für deren erfolgreiche Bekämpfung.

Die Focke-Wulf Fw 190 „Würger“ ist ein deutsches Jagdflugzeug des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Die bei Focke-Wulf in Bremen unter der Leitung von Chefkonstrukteur Kurt Tank entwickelte Maschine wurde ab 1941 von der Luftwaffe als zweiter Standardjäger neben der Messerschmitt Bf 109 verwendet. Bis zum Kriegsende wurden rund 19.500 Fw 190 verschiedener Versionen produziert.

Neben der Verwendung als Jagdflugzeug wurde der Typ als Aufklärer, Jagdbomber, Nachtjäger und Schlachtflugzeug eingesetzt. Die meisten Fw 190 wurden von einem luftgekühlten Sternmotor vom Typ BMW 801 angetrieben. Zur Erreichung besserer Höhenleistungen waren spätere Versionen mit einem flüssigkeitsgekühlten-V-Motor ausgestattet.

P-38 Lightning in action - Aircraft No. 25 (Repost)

In 1926, the fledgling Lockheed Aircraft Company, under the direction of Malcolm and Allen Lockheed and John Northrop, introduced the first high performance business plane - the Vega. Other ships such as the Sirius, Altair and Orion soon followed. Until the crash of the stock market in 1929 things looked bright for the young company, but from that point on, the outlook was much less clear. By 1932, it appeared the company would follow many others into bankruptcy; but such was not to be. Robert Gross, Carl Squier and Lloyd Stearman believed the company had a future and went to the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles where they purchased Lockheed for the princely sum of $40,000.

The first new design to come from the reorganized company was the twin-engined Electra. In March 1933, a model of this new ship was sent to the University of Michigan for wind tunnel tests. One of the men responsible for the tests was a young engineer by the name of Clarence L. "Kelly" Johnson. The Lockheed management was so impressed with Johnson that he was hired. This proved an extremely wise move, for four years later, the design of the P-38 would spring from his fertile mind.

Charles L. Scrivner's "TBM/TBF Avenger in Action" does a good job detailing the technical history of this torpedo bomber. The book starts with the XTBF-1 prototype before moving on to the TBF/TBM-1 and TBM-3 production versions. He also details the many sub-variants of the series including the -1C, -3E, -3R, British Tarpoon export variants, and others.

Es werden in ihm nur die Panzer beschrieben, die bis zur Schlacht von El Alamein im Einsatz auftraten. Diese Begrenzung zeigt somit die erste Hälfte des Zweiten Weltkrieges. Sie war prägend für die britische Panzertruppe und die Panzertypen, die später in den Schlachten auf dem europäischen Kontinent auftraten. Die Lehren aus diesen Feldzügen gewann die britische Panzertruppe durch praktische, zuweilen harte Erfahrungen. Sie nahm sie aber wohl auch an durch Untersuchungen der Feldzüge, an denen nicht britische Truppen beteiligt waren, wie den Feldzügen der Wehrmacht in Polen, den Anfängen auf dem Balkan und das erste Rußlandjahr (1941). Die ersten Gefechte in Nordafrika gegen die schlechter ausgerüstete italienische Armee brachten nicht viel Erfahrungen; erst als Rommel mit seinen besser ausgerüsteten und vor allem kriegserfahrenen Verbänden erschien, wurden die Kämpfe härter und lehrreicher.

In 1935 the US Navy Bureau of Aeronautics issued a request for proposals to the US aviation industry for a new fighter design to replace the Grumman F3F. A number of designs were submitted and from these the Navy selected two for further development. In the Spring of 1936 the Navy awarded contracts for two prototype fighters, the Brewster XF2A-1 and the Grumman XF4F-1. Brewster's XF2A-1 prototype was a monoplane, while the Grumman design, the XF4F-1. was a biplane, similar to Grumman's earlier F3F-3 already in service. Grumman, realizing that its competitive edge could be lost if they continued with biplane designs while others were building monoplanes, sought the Navy's permission to change the XF4F-1 prototype from a biplane to a monoplane configuration. On 10 July 1936. the Navy agreed to the Grumman proposal. The XF4F-1 contract was cancelled and Grumman received authorization to build a prototype of the monoplane XF4F-2 in its place...
